12/15- Hospital life

Greetings from the PICU at Miller Children's hospital😬
We decided to take Annelise in to the ER early this morning.  Her tummy wasn't emptying the food we were feeding her from 9pm to 3am....this was a brand new type of tummy problem. We already knew she was sick because of the fever... and nothing good can come from not processing your nourishment while trying to fight off germs.  I also had in the back of my mind the advice from her general surgeon who put in her g-button, to watch for signs of intestinal malrotation.  That would require surgery when the intestine gets turned and blocked completely.  She had many of the symptoms... but of course those are the symptoms that can also easily be symptoms of something simpler, like a UTI.
We will happily take a UTI over malrotation, and it looks to be like that's what we are dealing with here.  It's common for kids who are cathed intermittently like Annelise, to have recurring UTI's.  This is her first one.  The risk for her now is if the bacteria reflux into her kidneys, since she has kidney reflux grade 4 out of 5 on one side of her horseshoe kidney.
So far, the levels they are watching for that look good!
So many things to praise the Lord for!
The attending Dr. in the PICU is one of our favorites!
We got to see our favorite RT in the hallway
Everyone we met today was fantastic in the way they worked with Annelise.
God has been all over the timing of these circumstances.  For example, I accidentally broke her g-button so it leaked this morning while in the ER!  We would have had to to wait 2 days for a new one to get to the hospital, or use a different type entirely that I didn't want.
Guess what came in the mail today and was waiting on the porch when I got home today?  The back-up g-button!  So I got to put it in her tummy myself under the supervision of the GI.  Now I feel much more confident about what to do if it pops out accidentally at home!
I don't want us to be here, but I am also so tired of watching Annelise cry whenever she is moved. Also, having more eyes on what's going on with her food is a comforting thought to me.
We might just have Christmas in January in our house, since this weekend we were supposed to finally decorate.  There's no problem with that as long as Annelise can be home infection free to enjoy the lights with us in whatever month it is!
I'll keep you updated.  This is a late post because my cell phone battery was 0% this morning. Of course it was 🙄
